Aside from being an environmentally endowed nation, Belize is also a place for business endeavors.  It is perfectly located as it’s nestled in the Caribbean, it is near the United States of America, and it’s just right off Mexico.  With the help of its population’s bilingual capability, hospitable citizens, ultimate destinations spots, its competent infrastructure, admirable and sought after marine life, tropical climate, renowned barrier reef, and its abundant natural resources, Belize is perfect as a tourist destination.  As such, it is also ideal for any investment and real estate venture.

Although Belize’ legal system is a mirror of the British Common Law and decrees, Belize has been able to develop its own unique identity by coming up with a few government laws and policies.  Now, these legislative actions and government initiatives that are designed to maximize the economic potential of the country have made Belize a land of investment opportunities.

The Belize Fiscal Incentives Act of 1990 enabled enterprises to gain grants of tax holidays that extend from 5 to 15 years.  The tax holiday grant is given based on the business’ degree of ownership (in union with a Belize national/s) and on the nature of the enterprise.  It also provided for an exchange rate set for 25 years and stable long-lasting democratic tradition.  Furthermore, through registration under the Central Bank of Belize and the satisfaction of other conditions, foreign nationals may also be allowed to fully send their profits and investments back to their home countries under this Act.

Other legislative initiatives passed and observed are the Limited Liability Partnerships Act, Retired Persons (Incentives) Act, Trust Act, Mutual Fund Act, International Financial Services Commission Act, International Banking Act, Protected Cell Companies Act, International Insurance Act, Money Laundering (Prevention) Act, and the International Business Company (Amendment) Act.  These and others like them enhanced the real estate and investment climate of Belize and created more and more opportunities for both Belize and foreign nationals.  They also control, protect and guide the development of the economy and stability of Belize.  More importantly, these schemes protect the rights of Belize and foreign nationals when they conduct their business activities.

Investors are also very much encouraged to invest in Belize today.  Since Belize does not implement capital gains tax or estate tax on enterprises, foreign investors are encouraged to come to Belize and be involved in investment and other business enterprises.  Given all these, Belize becomes not only the place to be during vacations season but also becomes one of the healthiest environments for conducting and developing any business undertaking as well.
