Your passport is the one thing that you absolutely should not forget before you step on that plane on your trip to Belize. Entry to Belize is limited only to people who have a valid passport with them. A visa may be required in some cases. People from some countries like Afghanistan are required to present a visa before they are granted entry. On the contrary, the citizens of the European Union member countries, the United States and Canada are not required to present a visa to go to Belize. How long you can stay in Belize depends on your purpose and country of origin. Your visit to Belize has a time limit of 30 days. If you don’t wish to leave yet after the 30 days are up, you have to request for an extension of your visit. When you do this, you would need to present yourself to the Immigration officials. There are extenuating circumstances that can give a Belize’s visitor an extension of three months. If you live somewhere very far from Belize, you may be able to get a full extension to your stay. If you are in Belize for business or if you are looking for possible investment opportunities in Belize, you may also get the three-month extension. However, you must be able to prove that you have enough money to last you for your whole stay and you must have a plane ticket home, too. Take note that requesting for an extension will cost you money; every month’s extension costs US$50.
