Panama Foundations Out of the following jusrisdictions: Switzerland (Swiss), Panama, Belize, Bahamas and the Cayman Islands, Panama is the the strongest location to form an offshore foundation. It's strong banking secrecy and anonymity laws form a strong base to form a philanthropic organization or corporation. Philanthropy Community Offshore foundations can provide an ideal vehicle to administer donations from an anonymous source. Often being anonymous can make operating a charity advantageous. Decisions can be made impartially with worry of the political impact. There is a group of off-shore charities that belong to the larger philanthropy community, with many well known names who wish to remain completely anonymous. This type of giving, only attracts the true philanthropist. Those interseted in giving to improve their public image are excluded from this club. Some might put the likes of Bill Gates and other high profile individuals conducting PR campaigns into this group. Here are some well known foundations: When I survey the above foundations I see that beyond the goal of improving public image, there is a sincere desire to benefit the those in need. Difference between a Foundation and a Charity On the other hand the difference between a charity and foundation is significant. It most jurisdictions, a charity cannot have any one donor contribute more than 50% of the funds. Many foundations are part of a tax deferral, or tax reduction strategy and so one wealthy individual contributes most of the money. Fundraising for Foundations & Charities Fundraising is done much the same way with one important difference. Charities can issue tax receipts to greatly benefit the contributors. A foundation can issue a receipt but it will not be treated the same way on your tax forms! If your goals are tax related you should consider a combination of a Panama foundation, corporation and bank accounts.
